March 2017 - Sustainable Energy Transaction Advisory Associate/Financial Analyst Africa Practice -- Nairobi Office

GreenMax Capital Advisors is a specialized provider of policy, financial, project development, program design and management advisory services exclusively in the clean energy sector. We have a 21-year track record and have completed assignments in more than 80 different countries around the world. GreenMax advises governments, private investors, project developers, donor agencies and international financial institutions on strategies to increase implementation of renewable energy and energy efficiency. Today our main geographic focus is on emerging markets in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe.
GreenMax's clean energy investment advisory practice has been growing rapidly in Sub Saharan Africa. We are serving as strategic and financial advisors to nearly 20 project developers throughout the region working on solar, wind, geothermal, solar hybrid, small hydro and off grid projects. Our largest engagement in Africa is as Transaction Advisor to Kenya’s Geothermal Development Company for the 465MW development at the Menengai prospect.

GreenMax is currently seeking to hire an Associates to join our Transaction Advisory team and help manage our Africa transaction advisory practice.

Requirements for this position are:

• Advanced level financial modelling experience, preferably on energy infrastructure projects
• At least 1 year of experience in the clean energy sector, preferably with direct experience analyzing financial and commercial viability of renewable energy projects
• At least 3 years of experience working on projects in Sub Saharan Africa
• Knowledge of the “project finance” approach of financing infrastructure projects, preferably with experience working on at least one transaction
• Strong communication and business development skills
• Ability to write extremely well in English
• University Degree in a related field (Finance, Renewable Energy, Sustainability etc)

The responsibilities for this position are delineated below:

1) Provide general financial modeling support to the Africa Transaction Advisory team
a. Update and refine GreenMax’s template financial models for different clean energy technologies
b. Prepare financial models for specific clean energy projects

2) Provide research support to the Africa Transaction Advisory Team
a. research to maintain GreenMax’s database of suitable clients that are sponsors of clean energy projects in SSA
b. research to maintain GreenMax’s database of suitable investors and lenders for clean energy projects in SSA
c. research to establish a database of clean energy transactions in SSA

3) Assist with management of Transaction Advisory mandates
a. Prepare project summary presentations and investment memorandums;
b. Prepare support documents to promote investment opportunities to financiers and international donors;
c. Prepare proposals for grant funding to support the company’s project developer clients in Africa – this includes preparation of detailed Terms of Reference for technical, financial and legal consulting services that will be supported with the grant funding;

4) Conduct business development
a. Network with clean energy project sponsors;
b. Prepare proposals to secure new advisory mandates
c. Negotiate mandate agreements
d. Prepare tender documents where TA services are competitively procured via public tender

During the coming year, the selected candidate should expect to devote roughly half of his/her time to GreenMax’s Advisory Services assignment with Kenya GDC.

The position will be full time and based in our Nairobi, Kenya office. The position will be arranged initially on a short term consulting contract basis. After a 90-day probationary period, the contract will be converted to a permanent consulting agreement and there will be participation in the company bonus program.

December 2014 - JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Sustainable Energy – Transaction Advisory Practice Associate – Emerging Markets Focus

GreenMax Capital Advisors (GreenMax) is seeking to hire several Transaction Advisory Associates to identify and analyze clean energy opportunities and provide support for our clients in Africa and Latin America. The positions may be located in our offices in New York, Nairobi or Santiago de Chile.

GreenMax supports governments, project developers, investors, financial institutions and donors in the analysis, preparation and implementation of a broad range of energy and environmental investments. Our core business is bringing more rational energy use to the market through renewable energy, project rehabilitation and energy efficiency. The development of frameworks to encourage clean energy development, the preparation and financing of these projects are our sole activities. We have advised governments in more than 20 countries on clean energy frameworks and investment policies. We are currently assisting, or in the past have assisted, many of the most recognized private investors to establish and execute their sustainable energy investment strategies, including market assessments, strategic planning and M&A. We have also supported regional commercial lenders to develop and roll-out new lending products targeting renewable energy and energy efficiency investments, and have helped many International Financial Institutions plan and launch market-transforming sustainable energy finance initiatives.

GreenMax's transaction advisory practice has been growing most rapidly in Sub Saharan Africa. We are present in Africa for more than a decade with offices in Nairobi, Kigali and Lagos. We presently serve as strategic and financial advisors to a wide variety of geothermal , solar PV, small hydro, waste to energy, biomass and CCGT projects in countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.
In Latin America and the Caribbean, we have our regional office in Santiago de Chile. Our consulting practice has been advising on clean energy finance for the World Bank, IFC and Inter-American Development Bank for many years, but our transaction advisory practice is just launching. We seek to add additional staff which will be responsible to search for additional clients who are strong sponsors of clean energy projects in these markets, to prepare project investment summaries and promote investment opportunities to financiers and international donors.

The ideal candidates will have:
- strong business development background and skills in an investment advisory context
- experience with investment advisory assignments in the clean energy infrastructure sector
- a strong network of contacts either in Sub Saharan Africa or Latin America
- experience with market and economic analysis on power generation projects in emerging markets
- extraordinary financial modeling skills in Excel with evident experience modeling clean energy projects (geothermal project modeling experience will be most helpful)
- strong writing skills in English
- understand the principals of and have experience working with "project finance" solutions

To be clear, we are looking for someone who has already worked in the sustainable energy field. Advantage for these positions will be given to expatriates of Sub Saharan African and Latin American and Caribbean countries who have knowledge and experience of the business environments in these regions or to nationals of other countries with experience living and working in these regions. Fluency in Spanish, French, Portuguese, Swahili and other local languages in these regions will be a big plus.
Most of all, we are looking people of highly entrepreneurial character who wish to participate in growing a company performing services in the exciting field of sustainable energy. These positions are in our Transaction Advisory practice group, which is success fee driven. Compensation will therefore be oriented towards a performance driven format with an adequate base supplemented by generous incentives.
