Sunkanmi Olowo is a senior banking professional with nearly 30 years of experience in Nigeria’s financial sector, including with Ecobank, Sterling Bank, Société Générale and Industrial Bank. Sunkanmi has expertise in project finance, risk management, transaction structuring and banking operations, with a focus on renewable energy finance. He also advises SMEs with financial structuring and product development. At GreenMax, Sunkanmi is Director of Business Development for the Green-for-Access First Loss Facility (G4A), a new risk mitigation platform that partners with local financial institutions in Africa to facilitate local currency lending for energy access.
Previously, Sunkanmi led the SME Banking Group at Ecobank Nigeria, where he established the renewable energy lending business as an SME sub-department – the first such group at a major Nigerian commercial bank. Much of the success he achieved at Ecobank was due to partnerships he arranged for credit lines and guarantee instruments with the Central Bank of Nigeria, Bank of Industry Nigeria, IFC, USAID Development Credit Authority and Africa Guarantee Corporation.
Sunkanmi is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. He holds an M.B.A. from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and a B.Sc. from University of Ilorin, Nigeria. He is fluent in English and Yoruba.
