Getnet Tesfaye has more than 30 years of experience as an energy sector professional in Ethiopia. Since 2009, he has been working as a consultant for Ethio Resource Group, an Ethiopian energy research and consulting services company. In this capacity, he has carried out dozens of assignments in the country’s renewable energy and energy access sectors.

As a consultant at GreenMax, Getnet led an update of the World Bank Regulatory Indicators for Sustainable Energy (RISE) index for Ethiopia and also supported a study of the country’s direct use geothermal sector for UNIDO in collaboration with the Geological Survey of Ethiopia (GSE) and the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum.

Previously, between 1989 and 2008, he worked in various capacities at the Ethiopian Ministry of Mines and Energy, including as an electrical engineer, an energy information manager, and an energy planner.

Getnet holds a M.Sc. in Energy Systems from the University of Strathclyde, U.K., and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Addis Ababa University.  He is fluent in Amharic and English.
