Sophie Johnson has over 30 years of experience in business, public finance, quality assurance, performance management, public relations, human resource management, consulting and advocacy. She is the Director of Solar Era Holdings SL Ltd. and Africa Growth and Energy Solutions UK PLC, a company engaged in developing renewable energy projects across West and Central Africa.
As a consultant at GreenMax, Sophie has worked on several assignments in Sierra Leone. She led GreenMax’s update of the World Bank Regulatory Indicators for Sustainable Energy (RISE) index for Sierra Leone, carried out data collection for a study of the rural mini-grid sector in Sierra Leone for SEforALL, and supported an assessment of the country’s off-grid solar market for the World Bank-funded Regional Off-Grid Electrification Project (ROGEP).
Sophie is also the Founder and former President of the Sierra Leone Renewable Energy Association (REASL), an association of private sector stakeholders working with governments and donors to advocate for energy access through the use of distributed renewable energy solutions. Under her leadership, REASL has played a key role in supporting off-grid market development in the country following the launch of the Energy Revolution in 2016. Sophie holds a B.A. from Middlesex University in London.
